Very early this morning (if you’re in the UK), Google launched Google Buzz headfirst into the social media market. Google Buzz is primarily designed to work alongside Gmail but does allow the integration of various social media platforms including Twitter.
Three interesting things I’ve learnt about Buzz so far:
1. Google claims that posts made on Buzz will be indexed ‘instantly’. That strikes me as a very powerful SEO tool asking to be utilised!
2. Buzz integrates instantly with Gmail. This is interesting for two reasons. Firstly, if someone you know likes a post/webpage/video etc, Buzz will let you know – this form of cross Gmail recommendation should work well. Secondly, Buzz sits within the toolbar of Gmail (Google’s second most visited page after their homepage) and hence has far more chance of becoming successful simply by virtue of that accessibility.
3. Buzz is available via mobile and hence this offers another platform where your posts (and post links) can be picked up across all web devices.
I’m looking forward to seeing how Buzz develops and, perhaps more importantly, how web marketeers embrace it. So far, I’d say it’s easily the most intriguing web newbie of the year, the question is – will we still be chatting about it on 10th Feb 2011?
